Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

The prosecutor added: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
